Impact of the regional comprehensive economic partnership agreement (rcep) on the export of wood and articles of wood, wood charcoal from Vietnam to the republic of Korea

Abstract

The study was conducted to evaluate and elucidate the impact of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) on export activities of wood and articles of wood, wood charcoal from Vietnam to The Republic of Korea with the use of both quantitative methods (SMART model - Software for Market Analysis and Restriction on Trade) and qualitative methods. Using the SMART model, research has demonstrated that while RCEP increases Vietnam’s wood and articles of wood export turnover to The Republic of Korea, the impact of RCEP on those items’ export is deemed inconsequential due to its comparatively small value. Together with the benefits of the RCEP, relevant organizations and Vietnamese wood and articles of wood manufacturers should be aware of any potential drawbacks to the Agreement, as determined by qualitative analysis. To encourage the export of Vietnamese wood and articles of wood to The Republic of Korea in the future, the authors thus suggested policy alternatives and management strategies for wood and articles of wood manufacturing, processing, and trading companies, wood industry associations, and relevant authorities as well
