dc.description.abstractResearch objectives: At the beginning of 2023, there was a new opportunity for the world, especially in Vietnam, to have free use of Generative AI tools and the rapid response of young people to this event. Therefore, the authors decided to conduct a research on the topic: “The Impact of Ho Chi Minh City University Students’ Using Generative AI (GenAI) for Learning on Self-learning Motivation: A Study Based on Self-Determination Theory” in order to analyze and evaluate the factors affecting the Self-learning Motivation when applying GenAI in learning. From there, recommendations can be made to educational institutions to be able to make policies and measures to help university students feel easier and more proactive for self-learning. Research method: Data for the research process is collected through the online survey on university students who used GenAI for learning (N=294). After filtering, the data was tested for reliability by Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, the data analysis techniques were: Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), Independent Sample T-Test and One-way Anova analysis, respectively. Research results: The results of the study reflect the impact of three factors in Self-Determination Theory as follows: Perceived Autonomy, Perceived Relatedness has a positive impact on two mediating factors, Perceived Usefulness and Intrinsic Motivation. However, Perceived Competence has an impact on only one of the two mediating factors of Intrinsic Motivation, not Perceived Usefulness. Self-learning Motivation is influenced by both mediating factors. Between the two mediating factors there is also a relationship of Intrinsic Motivation to Perceived Usefulness. Thus, eight out of nine hypotheses are accepted. Conclusion: Given the strong impact of Perceived Usefulness and Intrinsic Motivation on Self-learning Motivation. From the research results, the authors have assessed the current status of Self-learn Motivation of students, made recommendations as well as solutions to enhance the Self-learn Motivation of students through the benefits of GenAI.en_US
